The House Labor Committee has posted for next Wednesday, June 16 at noon to take up the Senate's version of PA 312 reform, SB 1072, as well as the Senate's Urban Cooperation Act (UCA) bills. Go here to our interactive action alert system to send a letter to your state legislators urging their "no" vote.
You'll recall that the Senate passed these hollow reforms back in February. The PA 312 bill does NOT contain a definition of ability to pay nor a requirement that ability to pay be the top consideration for an arbitrator. The UCA bills do not strike language that result in all employees being bumped up to the highest wage.
Contact your legislators and tell them to vote NO on these bills unless there are substantive amendments added in the House.
We often have legislators ask how they can help our communities in these struggling times, and this is NOT reform that helps our local units of government. These bills do not help communities control their budgets nor do they remove barriers to cooperation.
Tell your legislators that if they want to help our local units of government they need to pass real reform bills, not these watered-down versions. Contact your legislators today!
