The House this week passed HB 4561. This bill would in crease the allowable time between updates of the Uniform Construction Code from 3 years to 6 years. The director of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs could update the code after 3 years if he/she determined that there was a sufficient need. The League expressed support for the committee substitute to this bill because it saves locals money by not having to purchase Code books for staff every three years, and also ensures that technology and innovation would still be assured as part of the Code (becase the Director could have changes made in the 3rd, 4th or 5th years as necessary). The bill passed on a bi-partisan 68-51 vote.
