Congres has finally begun its summer recess, and with it comes the opportunity for local officials to meet with their congressional representatives.
The League urges you to schedule a meeting and use that time to stress the value of how federal dollars have worked to improve the quality of life for residents in your community...in their district!
When Congress returns to session, the debate over the 2012 budget will begin in earnest. As has been reported in earlier posts, funding cuts or elimination of programs has already been proposed. This includes funding for transportation, CDBG, COPS, homeland security, rural development, sewer and water programs, etc.
It is imperative that local officials take the opportunity now to speak with and show your member of Congress the value of the investments that have been made with federal dollars and ask them to continue to support these critical investments in economic growth.
