The League needs specific examples of communities that are concerned they won't be able to match federal funds for transportation projects. With projected revenue sharing cuts and falling tax revenues, communities are in a difficult position. If we could give lawmakers a few examples of our communities to add to the list of 21 counties it would strengthen the call for action. Please post your examples to the blog or email Andrea Messinger.

For FYE2010, the city of Ypsilanti has appropriated $800,000 from reserves to cover the matching cost for major street repair. This is 6% of our general fund expenses ($14 million). Even though we appreciate the opportunity to collect federal funds for major street projects, a projected 8% drop in property tax revenues along an unknown further reduction in state shared revenue (already reduced from $4 million to $3 million) is placing burden and worry on Ypsilanti city council and the residents. I urge the state to consider funding mechanisms to ease the burden on local municpalities and maintain our current major road system, not expand it.
