The League was pleased to be able to co-sponsor a recent debate on the question of a state constitutional convention. The debate features former Grand Rapids Mayor John Logie, a supporter of such a convention and Bob LaBrant, general counsel for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, and a oppenent of holding a convention.
Our state’s constitution provides Michigan citizens the opportunity to decide every 16 years whether to call a constitutional convention to propose revisions to the state’s rules for government. That question will appear on the November 2, 2010 ballot.
The debate was part of the Great Debates 2010 series which the League is proud to sponsor. In the future, the series will feature debates between gubernatorial candidates as well as candidates for the state house and state senate. Look for updates through this blog and our LINK e-newsletter.
