I received a call from staff at the Michigan Department of Community Health yesterday asking for help in spreading the word about a grant opportunity that they have available for communities iterested in adopting Complete Streets policies.  The email from MDCH describing the grant opportunity is below.

The issue of Complete Streets is being discussed at many levels around Michigan and around the country this year.  If you attended the Dan Burden walkability workshop that the League sponsored in Lansing recently and/or would like to learn more about Complete Streets and legislative efforts that are being considered at the capital, please give me a call or send me an email.

If you are interested in pursuing this grant opportunity, please pull up the attached application materials and contact Lisa Grost at the number below.

Chris Hackbarth is the transportation policy advisor for the Michigan Municipal League.  Chris can be reached at 517-908-0303 or by email at chackbarth@mml.org.

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) and partners have received funding for Michigan to support local and state efforts to pass complete streets policies. Communities can apply with their local health departments to receive funding to pass a local ordinance.  The Complete Streets RFA and application is attached for interested communities.  Local health department contacts can be found at www.malph.org.  (Inquiries can be made to Lisa Grost grostl@michigan.gov or Jim Harrington harringtonj3@michigan.gov.)
