The Legislative Commission on Statutory Mandates has released its final report, which is included here. The Commission found in excess of $2.2 Billion in state unfunded mandates on local units of government for just a select group of mandates. This is a clear concern as the Michigan Constitution states that any mandate placed on the locals by the state needs to be funded. This report can be helpful to you as you talk to legislators about issues that you are facing. They need to be educated about all the various reasons communities are struggling to provide essential services to residents. It could be a helpful tool for citizens as well, to understand additional pressures you face from the state.
