This morning over 30 people packed the top floor of the Boji Tower in downtown Lansing to discuss government reforms, namely PA 312 and the Urban Cooperation Act. The group represented a large cross section of people including legislators, lobbyists, young professionals and private citizens.  The unifying theme was that Michigan is in a place where we need big changes and big reforms.  We simply cannot continue giving the types of wage and benefit increases that we were giving 20 years ago.  The group was unified in reforming PA 312 (although there was also a strong grumbling of repeal from the group).  The key is to let lawmakers know that these laws are harmful to public safety. Without reforms the result is layoffs. Period. Cities just can't afford these exorbitant arbitration awards any longer.  It's important to contact your legislators and let them know that PA 312 is harmful to the public safety in your community!
