Governor Snyder will be releasing his 2010-2011 budget as well as his proposal for a new tax plan on Thursday in a joint meeting of the Senate and House Appropriations and Finance/Tax Policy committees.

Snyder will be joined by his budget director, John Nixon, and his Lieutenant Governor, Brian Calley.  Calley referred to the announcement as an A-Bomb that will be dropped on Lansing.  The budget needs to cut $1.8 billion and is expected to also cut another $1.5 billion or so when Snyder proposes the eliination of the Michigan Business Tax.  His preferred replacement is a 6% Corporate Income Tax, but that will leave the state with the additional $1.5 billion.

For League members, revenue sharing is expected to be cut. No firm numbers have been leaked about how much, though, which is consistent with Snyder's comments that nothing will be released until Thursday.  League staff will be closely following the budget as it develops.

The budget presentation will be televised on MGTV (public-access tv) and online on the Senate or House websites.  For questions as the budget develops, contact Summer Minnick or Andy Schor.
