The Senate and House both moved their appropriations bills forward last week, and both reduced the dollars that are supposed to make up for the elimination of the Brownfield and Historic credits.
The Governor recommended $50 million for the Business Attraction and Economic Gardening Fund, in order to fund the elimination of the Brownfield and Historic and MEGA credits. The Governor, though, then admitted that this is not enough to cover the elimination of the credits.
Last week, the House General Government Sub-Committee, in HB 4274, cut the amount appropriated for Brownfields and Historic credits in half when they passed the bill. The House Appropriations Committee will be meeting this week to consider the legislation.
The Senate Appropriations Committee also passed the bill with the reduced amount, and will consider the bill before the full chamber this week (likely on Wednesday).
The League continues to advocate for either Brownfield and Historic credits, or enough in appropriation to cover the loss of those credits. Without either of thise, the Legisalture will be preventing communities and developers from creating jobs and private investments.
The League put out a press release on this issue today (www.mml.org).
