Broadband funding and workshop information

With $4.8 billion availiable nationwide in a second round of funding for broadband grants and loans through the recovery act and with federal agencies planning to accept applications between February 16 and March 15, 2010, local communities need to get ready to apply.  On Thursday, February 11, Governing Magazine is offering a complimentary webinar on broadband deployment.   This webinar will discuss the planning and application process under the Recovery Act and explore strategies for using broadband to connect residents and enhance services.  And don't forget, a series of one-day workshops is being offered by the League along with the Michigan Department of Information Technology and other organizations around the state in early February as well.  Broadband funding under the Recovery Act is a once in a lifetime opportunity for local communities to get connected and provide opportunities for residents and business alike.  Arnold Weinfeld is Director of Strategic Initiatives and Federal Affairs for the Michigan Municipal League.
