Funding is now being made available through the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utility Service (RUS) to accelerate broadband deployment in unserved, underserved and rural areas.  RUS will make loans and grants for broadband infrastructure projects in rural areas. NTIA will provide grants to fund broadband infrastructure, public computer centers and sustainable broadband adoption projects. NTIA and RUS will accepting applications for loans, grants and loan/grant combinations to be awarded by each agency under a single application form.  For details on the definitions and requirements of both programs, please refer to the Notice of Funding Availability for Broadband Initiatives and Broadband Technology Program. Applications are being accepted between July 14th and August 14th.  This is the first of three rounds of funding for the $7.2 billion program funded through the Recovery Act.
