This Wednesday at 12:30pm the Senate Finance Committee is taking up SBs 322 & 323, which deal with one time tax collection. Under the proposed legislation, local communities would be able to move up their tax collections to July. However, only bills that would have totaled over $100 at the December levy would be eligible to be bumped up to July. The League is supportive of allowing locals to move tax collections to July to icrease efficiency and reduce local government costs, but has concerns with any legislation that places these limitations, which will only increase confusion among residents and will not decrease costs as a full one time tax collection effort would. The League will be testifying that we support the effort to move toward one time tax collection, but urge the legislature to remove any dollar caps.
