This Wednesday at 10:30am the House Tax Policy Committee is taking testimony only on HB 4602, which deals with an inequity in the commercial/industrial property asseessing regarding using occupancy to determine value. Known as the "WPW" bill (for the court case WPW vs. City of Troy) this fixes the current ability for property owners to get reductions in value based on occupancy, but not be able to increase value due to occupancy, by striking occupancy as a factor. This inequity was created when the Supreme Court ruled that the city could not increase the value on those parcels due to an increase in occupancy. The League will be testifying in support of this legislation.
