With the Senate unable to gather enough votes to break a filibuster on that part of the President Obama's $447 billion proposal to retain and hire teachers, police and firefighters, it looks like the Senate will now try to pass the transportation and infrastructure part of the package.

Certainly, it seems that funding for transportation and infrastructure might have the best chance of receiving some attention from Republican leaders in Congress given prior bi-partisan initiatives in this area. Even political foes such as the AFL-CIO and U.S. Chamber of Commerce have called for partisan politics to be cast aside in support of these very investments.

Of the $50 billion of immediate spending on transportation and infrastructure, Michigan would receive at least $901 million creating over 11,000 jobs.

Members are encouraged to contact your congressional representatives and ask them to support funding for transportation and infrastructure so communities can move forward with creating the necessary elements to move our economy forward.
