The legislation that would change the way public employers pay for health care, SB 7, is likely to be tackled quickly on August 24, the next legislative session date.

This bill creates the hybrid system that puts all public employers under a hard cap unless they opt into an 80/20 premium share system instead. Cities, villages, counties and townships may opt out entirely under the bill that passed the House.

Negotiations have been going on throughout the summer break, and it sounds like this issue could possibly be on its way to the Governor's desk after session on August 24.
