Downtown Lansing can be like high school. The rumor mill is insane, and if something happens, there are 500 versions of it circulating within a few minutes. Yesterday I had a staffer tell me something infuriating that is motivating me to work even harder for our communities. Apparently this staff member was told by a lobbyist that PA 312 wasn't a big deal and only really affected Detroit, Grand Rapids and Wyoming.  I also heard that MML is "making a big deal out of nothing and trying to scare people." These are the kinds of rumors that make my blood boil because I know from all of our members the effect PA 312 has had on your budgets.  If you haven't already seen it, we started PA 312 section on our website to serve as a central repository for information. There's also a link where you can share your horror stories. Those stories are e-mailed directly to me (and only me), and they will remain anonymous if you'd like. I think it's important to let legislators know what PA 312 is doing to all of our communities. Revenue sharing was cut yesterday, and while reforming PA 312 does not make that better, it at least gives communities control over their own costs. Keep reminding your legislators about how PA 312 is affecting your budget!
