MML Policy Committees

Members of the Finance and Taxation Committee study intergovernmental fiscal relationships, review proposals and legislation on fiscal matters affecting local units of government, and make recommendations to the League Board of Trustees on policies which should guide the League in these matters. They serve as consultants to the staff on matters concerning relations with departments of the State government charged with fiscal functions.

Members of the Legislative and Urban Affairs Committee plan legislative strategy and study the problems associated with urban living, including such matters as housing, civil rights, regionalism, public safety, boundary adjustment, land use controls and planning, and recommend to the Board of Trustees a proposed course of action on all such matters. Between meetings of the Board of Trustees the committee may establish on a temporary basis, subject to approval of the Board at its next meeting, the policy of the League with regard to pending legislation.

Members of the Transportation and Environmental Affairs Committee review on a continuing basis the total transportation program for the State of Michigan, including studies of revenue sources to finance all modes of transportation and the allocation of such revenue; to review programs in the public works field, particularly problems with water conservation, solid waste disposal and pollution control. To serve as consultants to the staff and to make recommendations to the Board of Trustees on a proposed course of action on such matters, and to serve as liaisons with the appropriate state departments and commissions.
