Issue Advisory: Updates for League Members on Personal Property Tax Issue
April 16, 2012
Please Attend Press Conference Wednesday on Personal Property Tax
Michigan Municipal League members are encouraged to attend a press conference 10:30 a.m. Wednesday about the personal property tax issue.
The League, as part of the Replace Don’t Erase coalition, will have a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Lansing City Fire Station #1, 120 East Shiawassee (corner of Shiawassee and Grand), Lansing. The press conference is in response to bills that we expect to be introduced Tuesday (April 17) that would significantly cut personal property tax revenues to local communities without constitutionally guaranteed replacement.
Then at 11:00 am Wednesday we expect a hearing before the Senate finance committee to follow. As many of our members as possible are encouraged to attend the press conference and Senate hearing. Please contact Summer Minnick if you plan on attending and would like more information. She can be reached at (517) 908-0301 or sminnick@mml.org. Please note that if you are unable to attend and would like more information about the personal property tax issue, you can be part of the League’s webinar on Friday (see story below). We believe this will be the most efficient way for members to stay up to speed in a timely manner.
Go to the League’s Legislative Inside 208 blog here (http://www.mml.org/advocacy/inside208/) for information about the PPT-related bill as it becomes available.

Webinar to Inform League Members about PPT Bill Set for Friday
The Michigan Municipal League will have a free webinar 10-10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, to inform our members about legislation that would significantly cut personal property tax revenues to local communities without a constitutionally guaranteed replacement. The webinar will feature League Lansing staff members Summer Minnick and Andy Schor, who will answer questions about the bills that are expected to be introduced today (April 17, 2012).
In response to the legislation, the League, as part of the Replace Don’t Erase coalition, will propose an amendment to the state constitution that guarantees full replacement of any cut PPT revenue. The constitutional amendment also will be discussed during the webinar.
To participate in the webinar from the comfort of your own computer, just click here, then enter your contact information and click the "register" button. You will then receive an email from “League Webinars” with the computer and teleconference login information.
*Please note that the audio portion of the webinar can only be accessed via the telephone number.
